FSHS Meeting Going Virtual

Dear FSHS Members,

In light of surging infection rates of COVID-19 in the state, the Florida State Horticulture Society Board of Directors has made the decision to hold this year’s FSHS Annual Meeting using a virtual format.

[Note from webmaster: The website will be updated later this week to reflect this change in venue].

We initially moved to postpone the meeting and move it from June to October in the hope that the pandemic would abate but unfortunately this is not the case.

We are working quickly to revise registration details and pricing and hope to post details to the FSHS website in the near future.

We ask for your patience and hope to see you online in October.

Gene McAvoy
Chairman of the Board

Special Letter to Members about Coronavirus from the Chairman

Dear FSHS Members,

As you are all aware, the 2020 Annual Meeting of the Florida State Horticulture Society was originally scheduled for June 7 – 9, 2020 in Sarasota.

As the effects of the Covid 19 pandemic continue to unfold and impact every sector of society, it has become apparent that the possibility that the conference could go on safely as scheduled was extremely unlikely.

The Board, working with the conference organizers at ASHS, has reviewed our options for holding the meeting at a later date placing utmost priority on the health and safety of our members.

After careful deliberation, the Board has opted to move the meeting to October 18 -20 at the same venue – the Hyatt Regency Sarasota.

As a result, we have extended the abstract deadline to July 15, 2020. The good news is that as many of us are now working from home, you now have plenty of time to develop and submit your abstract if you missed the previous April 1st deadline. If you have already submitted your abstract and author’s agreement, now is a good time to begin work on your paper.

Early Bird prices for registration will now end Friday, Aug 21, 2020. Refund structure.

  • On or before September 4 = Full refund less a $20 processing fee
  • September 5 through September 18 = 75% refund less a $20 processing fee
  • September 19 through October 9 = 50% refund less a $20 processing fee
  • On or After October 10 = No refund

Members who have already registered for the June meeting will be refunded if they are unable to attend the October meeting. Contact: hhilko@ashs.org Requests for refunds must be received by May 31.

You can rest assured that as we move forward, the health and safety of our members will be our priority.

Prayers for the safety of you, your families and our nation. Thank you for your understanding and for your continued support for FSHS!
Stay safe and all the best.

Gene McAvoy
Chairman of the Board
