Our last conference was June 9 to 11, 2019 at the Sheraton Orlando North in Orlando, Florida! Check back here for updates about the conference and its activities!
Our annual conference is where you can get the latest information on Florida horticulture. Like our parent organization, the American Society for Horticultural Science, we bring together science, industry, academics, government and students to cultivate ideas and share new techniques. Our meeting features technical sessions, poster presentations, keynote speakers and workshops.

[one_half]Proposed Amendments to Bylaws
Please take a few minutes to review the proposed amendments to the FSHS bylaws that will be discussed at the member meeting at the conference:
How to Get to the Conference
You have several options on getting to the hotel in Orlando. If you are coming from the west (Lakeland, Tampa way), take Interstate 4 to Exit 90C. From there, follow Exit to Lake Destiny Drive. The hotel will be on your right.
If you are coming from the east, (Lake Mary, Daytona Beach way), take Interstate 4 to Exit 90B. From there, merge right onto Maitland Boulevard, then follow Keller Road. Next, turn right at the first light onto Maitland Center Parkway. Head straight for about a half mile and the hotel will be right ahead.
How to Sponsor the FSHS
Sponsor our organization and network with other horticultural professionals in Florida! The FSHS welcomes sponsors for it’s annual meeting. If you’re interested in being an FSHS sponsor, please contact Dr. L. G. Albrigo at [email protected] for an explanatory letter. See more info on our Sponsors Page.
In-service co-coordinators for FSHS are Steve Sargent and Shinsuke Agehara. The ISTs offered in 2019 are (a) the whole meeting itself, and (b) two concurrent Tuesday afternoon sessions:
Session 1: Agricultural Irrigation, Scheduling and Use of Soil Moisture Sensor In-Service Training, offered by Lin- coln Zotarelli, UF/IFAS HOS and Charles Barrett, Water Resources RSA, UF/IFAS Extension.
Session 2: Residential Irrigation and Landscape Man- agement In-Service Training offered by A.J. Reisinger, UF/ IFAS. As always, Extension agents need to sign up for the IST at the PDEC website (pdec.ifas.ufl.edu).
GENERAL CONFERENCE REGISTRATION FEES AND INFORMATION
*Facility Usage Fee
The Florida State Horticultural Society continues to make every effort to keep costs at a minimum for those attending the FSHS Annual Conference. One way this is done is to make a commitment to the conference hotel that a specified number of hotel rooms will be occupied by our conference attendees. In exchange for the hotel room occupation, the property provides FSHS with complimentary meeting space.
In each of the last four years, FSHS has been in jeopardy of facing hefty penalty fees for not filling its committed number of sleeping rooms. Individuals who choose to stay at non-host hotels receive the benefit of the conference facilities, but do not contribute to the necessary commitments that allow the Society to use meeting space on a complimentary basis. Therefore, the FSHS Board of Directors has instituted a “Facilities Usage Fee” for those who attend the conference, but choose not to stay in the host hotel.
The $150 Facilities Usage Fee will apply only to those who register (including exhibitors, speakers, students, etc.) for the conference, but choose not to stay at the host hotel. For attendees that live within 50 miles of the conference location, this fee will be waived.
We encourage all conference attendees to avoid this Facilities Usage Fee and stay at the host hotel. Please be aware that if you are sharing a room with another delegate, both names must appear on the room reservation by the hotel reservation cut-off date, otherwise you will be assessed this fee and obligated to pay it in order to pick up your registration credentials.
Staying at the host hotel makes it easy to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow FSHS members inside and outside of scheduled activities. Just imagine – no commuting time to conference activities; additional networking time with colleagues; and amenities, such as complimentary internet in the sleeping room, complimentary parking, room service, safes, exercise facilities, and restaurants/shops – everything in one convenient location.
It certainly is your choice as to where you desire to stay during the conference, but please understand that FSHS does have contractual commitments that we must honor, and we must do all we can to assure that there are no negative financial implications to the Society and the FSHS Membership.
